| "Ten Inch Hero" (2007) brought together many actors from The CW ("One Tree Hill" and "Supernatural"). |
The basic premise, a group of people working at a sandwich shop, seems pretty cut and dry, but the nuances of this film keep you coming back for more. The story starts with Piper (Elisabeth Harnois), a young artist who moves to Santa Cruz to find her daughter, who was adopted when Piper had her at 15. She gets a job at a sandwich shop and meets some of the most beautifully written characters.
Priestly (Jensen Ackles), the rebel who refuses to blend in, provides a lot of the comic relief in the film. His t-shirts, including one that says "Tip Me or Die," are wonderful. He shops for tampons for the store bathrooms, y'all. Tish (Daneel Ackles), the token hot girl, makes a game out of seducing men and pretty much goes home with anything. Trucker (John Doe) is the owner of the sandwich shop and is in love with the clairvoyant lady across the street.
And then there’s Jen (Clea DuVall) who is the most relatable character in the film, at least for me. She is instant messaging a stranger on the internet, which is creepy, yes. But it's REAL. The girls go on a road trip to meet her internet friend, fuzzy22, and the scene on the way home totally won me over. But I won’t ruin it for you!
This story of a dysfunctional group of people may seem silly and overdone at first, but give Ten Inch Hero a chance. It won’t disappoint.
"Ten Inch Hero" was shot at Beach City Grill in San Pedro, Calif.
